99 toyota 4runner.. While driving today I noticed a hesitation when I wood start going from a standstill.Popped hood to add some transmissom fluid and noticed liquid spewing out the radiator over flow the color was a murky brown. Thinking it had to be trans. fluid in the coolant i added 1 qt. hoping to drive it home.2 hr's later I started it up and and the car would barely move. At very high RPM's it woul creep along. I drove it 1 mile and parked it Any help woud be great. 4 runner has 247k and has never had a problem . I change oil every 4k and nothing else has been touched.Thanks.......

Assuming this is an automatic transmission; The radiator has a transmission cooler in it. The transmission fluid runs through it to keep it cool. If the cooler ruptures, you will get trans. fluid in the radiator. Will make a terrible mess of the cooling system. If you've left this go to the point the vehicle will no longer move, you're probably looking at a transmission and a really thourough cleaning of the cooling system. Of course, I'd start with the radiator and cooling system, first. Loren SW Washington

would adding the qt.of fluid and mayby overfilling the tranny cause the truck to barely move .Like i said it was just hesitating slightly when i stopped to add fluid and 2 hrs later after sitting still in the cold it barely moves . It didn't go dry as it showed 3 inches on the dipstick..

Okay; Let's start over. Are you sure that it is transmission fluid in the cooling system? Where is the transmission fluid level on the dipstick? Is it where it should be....at the full mark? Was it actually low when you added fluid? Is this an automatic trans, or a manual? Loren SW Washington

It was low ,....auto tranny ....dipstick had two notches 1 inch apart fluid was 1 inch below bottom notch. the leak made a 2 ft circle in the snow and another after I drove it 1 mile at a max of 10mph at about 3500 rpm

That sounds like an external leak. Look for leaks along the transmission cooling lines, from the trans. to the radiator. Doesn't explain trans. fluid in the radiator, though. Loren SW Washington
