Noise and low rpm after fuel filter change Sign In

Hi.

I have Ford Taurus 2000 3.0 140K.
Lately the engine light become ON and i noticed that when driving in highways it goes OFF after a while.
Online i was reading that sometimes on low RPM some spark plugs can be miss firing and i should change them.

I decided to do it by myself, so i bought 6 spark plugs and also a fuel filter (to do more for my car).
The fuel filter was easy to replace. I didn't disconnect any fuse or wire before doing it (i know i was suppose to do it).
After that i didn't check the engine, i went straight to the plugs.

I started with the top engine screws, to reach the back plugs.
After that the air pipe, and then i saw that i need to loose also the round piece that attached to this top on the back.
I didn't have the tool and it was already dark outside, so i put everything back.

When i tried to start the engine it been starting well.
But, after 4-5 seconds it starts to choke and die to very low RPM.
If i push the gas pedal it is going up and down (the RPM), but when releasing it goes back to the problem.

I don't want to start it to many times before i can know the problem.
Don't want to have more problems.

Please help. thank you.

Look back over your work. Sounds like you have a vacuum leak. Did you ever get your codes scanned or did you just assume from online research that your engine light was on for a misfire?

The car was running real good all the time, but it was going about 700RPM when standing.
The engine light was going OFF after driving in high speed for long period of time.
So, i try to understand why, and the only answer i could match was the tune-up that i need to do, especially the spark plugs.

Now i read at AutoZone that i should of release the pressure before replacing the fuel filter.
Maybe like you said, i have a vacuum leak...

Thanks for the reply, by the way.

Releasing the fuel pressure before you change the filter is basically to keep you from getting sprayed in the face when you unhook it. I would check for the vacuum leaks and then get it scanned and post the code numbers, not just the generic descriptions here for us to see. Gives us a better picture as to what is happening with your car.
