No start issue Sign In

On a 02 avalanche, 5.3 with 160k. has sat up for 8 months. Installed A new fuel pump. It will give a split second start then kill. The security light is not staying on but does blink like normal. The fuel gauge is reading on empty and the low fuel light is on. I can smell fuel after trying to start it several times so Its getting fuel. Also if I press accelerator to the floor it will not give me the split second start. I have performed the anti theft relearn procedure. PLEASE help!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope I have givin enough info, thank y'all for being here.

Are you sure that it has enough fuel in the tank? What is your fuel pressure? Did it run before replacing pump?

If the theft light is flashing, that means the immobilizer is active. Either there is something wrong with the key or the PCM lost communications with the theft deterent module. You will probably need to get it towed to a shop that can access the BCM and other modules with a high end scan tool to see what kind of code(s) are being stored and to do some diagnosis to see what is actually going on.

DS is right. The immobilizer is shutting you down.
Did you do the complete 30 minute relearn or just the 10 minute?

Yessir, I did the 30 minute. One thing that puzzles me is this, when I crank it with my foot off the gas it will do the split second start, with my foot on the gas, it won't?? Also I know there is atleast 8 gallons of gas and the fuel level is still below Empty and the low fuel light is on.
Thanks again for the help guys!!!

Did you get the correct response when doing the procedure?
Did the security light go off at the end of each segment?
Have you tried a different key?

The light did not stop blinking. I used the same key. Should I try the reset with another key?

Re: No start issue Sign In

If the light did not stop blinking, then you didn't complete a relearn. You don't proceed to the next step until the light stops blinking.

I'll give you the procedure in case you're doing it wrong.

PASSLOCK 30 MINUTE RELEARN

Disconnect the battery and hold the cables together for about 30 seconds then reconnect the cables before performing the procedure.Read it carefully if done incorrectly it won't work.
Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON (vehicle will not start).
Observe the SECURITY telltale, after approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn OFF.
Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.
Repeat steps 1 through 4 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes (the vehicle is now ready to relearn the Passlock™ Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK).
Important
The vehicle learns the Passlock™ Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle.
Start the engine (the vehicle has now learned the Passlock™ Sensor Data Code and/or password).
With a scan tool, clear any DTCs if needed (history DTCs will self clear after 100 ignition cycles).

With the accelerator pushed to the floor; you're commanding the PCM to go into the clear flood mode.
In other words when the computer sees full throttle during cranking, it shuts off the injectors; in an attempt to clear a gas flooded engine.
