Nissan catalytic converter Sign In

I replaced one catalytic converter on my 2001 nissan maxima at the dealership for a cost of $1000, and now they are telling me 3 weeks later that the other one is shot as well which will cost another $1000. The "service engine soon" light just came on 5 days ago. I am curious if $1000 is a fair price, if they should have diagnosed the second converter having trouble 2 weeks ago when they serviced the first one, and how long I can go before having this service done. $2000 right after Christmas is poor timing for me!!

Re: Nissan catalytic converter Sign In

I just tried and didn't find prices so easily on these. The bigger problem is WHY? As our DanD would say "converter don't just die, they are murdered" and that's the problem - what caused this?

Hey- I know these are more bucks than anyone likes but 2,000 is enough! Get a full code reading on your own and report back exactly what it says. Many parts places are doing that as a courtesy now in hopes to sell parts of course. Don't wait either as if they really are bad the source problem will kill the new ones too!

How many miles on the vehicle? Converters are covered under a longer manufacturers warranty than the 3/36.
