Nissan Maxima has starting problem

Hi, I just recently bought a 97 Nissan Maxima (3.0 V6). One of the first days of owning it, it began having problems starting. Basically, it will only start like it should some of the time (maybe 50% of the time). The other 50%, when I insert the key in the ignition and turn, all the gauges will go on as if everything is normal, but then that's it, nothing else. I turn it and it won't turn over, there's not even any clicking. It's as if I have the key half turned. So I'll continue to turn off, and turn on until it goes. It usually takes about 10 times of repeating that until it actually starts. And the previous owner has papers to show that the battery is almost new and there's a newer starter. So I'm not sure why it would be doing this. Any ideas and how much it might cost to fix?

Ross; Check battery terminals for corrosion. Sometimes, they will look okay, but be nasty on the inside, so will require removing them for cleaning. Could be a faulty starter or relay. There was a TSB stating that the relay should be replaced with the starter on some models. Some of the remans. would actually come with a new relay.
Although rare, could be ignition switch.
