Dec 14, 2007, 1:30 PM Post #1 of 5 (1829 views) Neon poor gas milage Sign In I recently purchased a 2000 Neon in New England and drove it to Colorado. The car averaged 33.4 MPGF for teh 2100 mile trip. Driving around the city for the past week has produced a 21 MPG for the car. I have never owned a car that has had such a large difference between city and highway MPG. ANy clues as to what might be causing the large difference? This is about what you should expect from that car. There would be a wide difference in the highway miles especially on that trip which I've done many times where some stretches of road were so strait for so long that a whole tank of gas would go without ever hitting the brakes or slowing down for anything, T DanD Veteran / Moderator Dec 14, 2007, 3:41 PM Post #3 of 5 (1821 views) Re: Neon poor gas milage Sign In For a vehicle to get decent mileage on the highway and what you think is low in the city might be driver related. Sorry for saying this and I’m most likely wrong? But I’ve seen so many in town drivers that always want to be first away from a stop light; have to be the leader instead of a follower. I call people like this corner too corner racers; throttle to the floor, making sure they’re the first to stop at the next light. I’m just talking in general so don’t take offence; not knowing you, how can I say that this is what is wrong; just giving something to reflect on. Again, please don’t take offence but what are you’re in town driving habits like? I’ve go a truck that gets about 22 miles on the highway but less then 12 in town and I know a lot of this is my driving habits. I hate getting caught behind a bus or granny grunt. LOL Dan. Kansas/Nebraska is 87 octane regular and I guess most eastern states too ? The altitude may make a difference and the ethenol as well. Denver air is a little thin. I've never seen that sold on the East coast anywhere. Without turbo charging the thinner air of high altitude will affect power and efficiency. As far as ethanol.
