Search Auto Parts Search Need Help With Engine Codes Sign up here!   Email This Post Auto Repair Home>> Automotive Repair>> Car Troubleshooting Guest Anonymous Poster eric_karr@verizon.net May 5, 2009, 5:40 PM Post #1 of 3 (1339 views) Need Help With Engine Codes Sign In Here is the info on my car: 2001 Chrysler Sebring sedan 2.7 engine with 91,000 miles I am getting a check engine light with codes P0442 (Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected <small leak>) and P0445 (Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit Shorted). My first question is can one code cause the other? My other question is what can I do to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. But...A small leak can be most anywhere in the EVAP system, from the fuel tank to the engine. Usually, a loose gas cap will set a "Large Leak" code. The purge valves are a common failure and I've seen them leak. You can check the valve with an ohmeter and are easy to replace if that's the culprit. If not, a smoke test may be required to find the origin of the leak.
