My car literally spits out gas - HELP!!	Sign In

Hi everyone, this is my first post.

In a nutshell -
My 07 Golf (not the 07 Rabbit, you can still get new Golf's in Canada) is doing something completely unprecedented at the pumps - it spits out gas! I stick the nozzle in the hole (insert dirty joke here), pump gas for a few seconds, then all of a sudden it stops as if the tank is full, and then gas gushes out of the hole all over my car and the ground. Not much gas, maybe a half a cup's worth, but still, it's gas and it belongs in my car. Since I'm not even close to filling the tank I try again - it happens again and keeps happening about 3 more times until the tank is full. Meanwhile I have about a litre of gas at my feet and my car absolutely reeks.

Has anyone ever heard of anything like this? It's really irratating considering my car is about a month and a half old.
Any suggestions?

Hi,

I'll remove the other post that is a duplicate of this. I've had that problem with a whole line of cars but not spitting back like yours. You do need to rule out the pump you are using if it's the same one all the time. Also try a different angle with the nozzle.

Being a new car if this is a real problem and not the gas station's pump(s) it should go back and be fixed by the dealer. There may be a problem with the fuel neck design,

I'm almost positive the problem lies in the car. I've taken it to 3 different gas stations and had the same result. The first time I ever pumped gas in my Golf I had the same problem only it didn't spill gas - the pump would just stop every few seconds like the tank was full, then I'd continue again. All the other times after that is when it spit out gas. Looks like I'm taking her to the dealership. I have a feeling I'll have a difficult time trying to explain the problem - hopefully they don't look at me like I'm crazy.
