My car constantly overheats!! Sign In

I have a 2005 Chevy Cavalier. It has been overheating ever since I returned from overseas. I have had my head gasket replaced because it poped due to the engine overheating. THE CAR OVERHEATS UP WHILE I AM DRIVING BUT IMMEDIATELY COOLS DOWN WHEN I STOP!! That is completely backwards to car logic. This is why I am confused. A Car mechanic told me that my radiator was "clogged". I replaced the radiator with a brand new one and the same exact problem still exists!! Can anyone please help me!!

There are only two things that come to mind; Could be that the thermostat isn't opening all of the way, restricting flow when you need it the most, at speed. The other would be the water pump. Could be that the impeller is worn, or even more rare, that the impeller is slipping on the shaft. Either way, you'll get enough circulation at low speed, but not enough at higher speeds. Of course, the thermostat is the easiest and cheapest of the two options, and I'd check it first. Might as well replace it with a high-quality one while you are at it.. If you want to take the trouble to check, you can button it up without the thermostat installed and check for flow, but don't leave it out as this will cause more problems.

After your car is warmed up feel your hoses near your radiator .... If cold then there is a clog. Don't touch that hose for more than 3 seconds......lol
