I feel really dumb for asking this, but on a 2000ford escort, is there a difference between the iss and oss? Whenever I look to purchase them online all I ever find listed is the Vss. Are they both the same sensor, just in different locations?

I have no idea what an "iss" or "oss" even is. A VSS is a Vehicle Speed Sensor. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

ISS is input speed sensor and OSS is output speed sensor. The output speed sensor is usually the vehicle speed sensor (VSS). The input speed sensor is used to determine the rpm of the input shaft of the transmission. Using the both sensors inputs along with engine rpm allows the power train computer to determine the transmission's current gear ratio and torque converter slip speed. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I should have realized that. I've never seen the acronyms used.
