Hello Everyone, I just bought a used mitsubishi galant 2000 LS Which at first seemed like a great buy, but after the first week im noticing some issues which Im hoping arent too serious. The first one, is the windshield wipers dont exactly work. they'll move halfway and then get stuck. then we have to manually force them down. Second is the car blows white smoke randomly. I have no clue why. When steering and driving there is a slight cranking noise coming from the driver side. and lastly the worst part of it, is when I put the car in reverse, you hear a slight charging noise and then it jerks backwards. sometimes its a small jerk, sometimes its a big one. Other than that every other part of the transmission works great, and the car runs good and is great on gas. Thank you for taking The time to read all of this and any help would be appreciated so much! Have a great Day Everyone. Edit: The Car has 114,000 Miles on it and the Every car part in the smog check has passed.

? Your choice of descriptive words for noises escapes me some. It's tough but what does a "cranking" noise or "charging" noise mean? OK - White smoke: Where? Under the hood or out tailpipe or what? Wipers? With some checks seems like a weak motor but premature to say replace it and wonder if the "bargain" car will pan out at all so far so hold off till you know more as you've described some possible problems that would render this car not worth fixing up! 1st - are fluid filled properly? Steering noise could be low fluid, jerking when I think you mean getting into gear and moving could be low fluid too and so on. Add white smoke not known where could be a blown head gasket up to blown engine still not known. Either financially fatal IMO to this car, never mind transmission and other assorted things all at once. Try to focus on one issue at a time and find out what you really have here. Seems like someone just faked it with a ton of mechanic in a can junk just to get rid of it so far! T

An Example of the sound you hear when driving it is similar to a rollercoaster slowly going up a ramp. (Tick,Tick,Tick). The White Smoke is coming from the back through the tailpipe. Im unsure if the fluid is full or not and Im also not experienced in replacing it or knowing when the fluid is low. I believe you misunderstood me when I talked about the jerking, I apologize. When you change from neutral to reverse, the car makes a noise as if its trying to do something, and then it jerks/pulls backwards. meaning the entire car moves backwards. sometimes its a big pull and sometimes its a small pull. Every other part of the transmission is in good condition though. Thank you for your reply!

Also the car doesnt overheat so I dont think it is a head gasket problem. I can run a test soon though.

Please, no offense sport but if you aren't comfortable knowing if or how fluids are at proper level then just said head gasket isn't really suspect with white smoke coming out tailpipe, transmission is find except it clunks and does stuff on it's own it's pretty clear you are way over your head to judge the condition of this car so my suggestion will change. If you have any interest in keeping this car you should send it out for "X" amount of time of a pro check out for what it likely needs to be a reliable car that can be used for more than a lawn ornament. The possible costs from symptoms you've only just noticed in a week of having this thing are almost certainly declaring this car a parts car and of salvage value only sorry to say. Engines that burn coolant don't always mean a head gasket nor lack of overheating means it's good either. The real issue is now what are you going to do about it? You don't even know how to check fluids and think this is going somewhere?? Used is used same as ever just lots harder with cars. Pro used car dealers get burnt all the time too. Who is going to fix this car? Doesn't seem like you are going to so the expense will be out of reach for this car vs getting one if you wanted this exact car that needed nothing would be the bargain not this one, T
