so, one of my friends owns a 1994 Mazda Miata MX-5, however the car's engine is unrepairable, and the car itself is already over 150,000 miles. I read online that the car's body usually lasts forever (and the car is in very good condition) however most of the other parts are pretty much shot from running for so long. Now my friend plans to sell the car to me at a very low price, basically since its like selling just the body, and I would like to find out how much the price of a new engine would cost for a miata. Also the car has a manual transmission. So can someone reply with 1. how much a new engine would cost for a miata (both new and old, but engines with a little more horespower than stock), 2. how much it would cost to replace a lot of the transmission 3. well replacing everything else that would make the car run, except the body

Prices will be a local deal for you. I think I could get a good used engine installed for about $1500 from a salvage yard. It's my opinion that a good original is better than a rebuilt. Call around for prices in you area, T

Tom is right,I've even found good used engines for fair prices just screen the phone book for a bit,the MX-5 1.8 liter also features a variety of performance options from street to strip.The 1.6 also does,so you might want to increase performance by yourself or with the help of a trusty local tuner shop.Also chechk the prices on chassis parts from factory spec,and aftermarket applications (sometimes the aftermarket road is cheaper especially with suspension) but I warn you the MX 5 is a small roadster,springs and struts from unknown compainies with inferior equipment make for a rough ride.
