Merc 200 -How to - replace rear side window?

Hi Guys
My son has a 2nd hand Merc 200 ,1984, 2 liter -which had its rear, side passenger window smashed in a robbery and he needs to replace it. He has the replacement glass but cant get the new window into the space. The chrome frame from the door seems to be in the way so he cant get the glass into the space. How does he do that?
Does he have to remove or move that chrome door frame or is there another way of getting it in.
This is urgent as it looks like rain. Thanks Carol
