i got into my car the other day, started it and moved the shifter into reverse. but as a let go of the brake it went forward instead of into reverse. so i took the cover off and the shifter handle off. then if i were to push the shifter all the way forward as far as it could go it would go into reverse but i cannot push it far enough forward to put it in park. it appeared that the plastic housing had broken and that a pink "hook like" piece had broken away from the plastic housing on the left side of the shifter. there is also what looks like a cable that also hooks into the pink piece disconnected from the piece as well. any ideas on how to fix this or replace it?

From your description is sounds like you need a shifter assembly.
