Mechanic Did Some Repair Work Without My Permission-Not Sure What To Do Sign In

Back before Christmas, I dropped my second car off at my mechanic. I told him the only thing I wanted to have done was for him to check out the front passenger side wheel area to find out what was making the clunking noise and let me know if it is safe to drive. I would have paid him for the labor to check it out. Every time I called him he was busy and didn't have it in yet. Then came the holidays, and work got busy and I have been working crazy amounts of OT. I finally got back there today to find out the status and he did a number of things on there I didn't want to have done-he didn't have the bill handy..but he put back brakes on and everything and some type of spring. I just wanted the front end checked out to see if it was safe to drive. If if it wasn't, I was going to scrap it-inspection runs out in March

I am not sure what to do. I didn't authorize those repairs. I don't want to jeopardize my relationship with this guy though. I really do believe it was an honest mistake on his part. I don't think he did it intentionally. I don't want to be stuck paying $200 for something I didn't authorize though. I would have junked it. I didn't pick the car up yet...so no money has exchanged hands.

The time from before Christmas till now is plenty of room for confusion. If that bill is more than you really would have considered and junked the car then discuss it with them and perhaps sign over the car. They shouldn't have gone ahead and fixed much but should have called you if you couldn't get ahold of them. Some places around me would have charged you $35 bucks a day to leave it there! Go there and discuss it,

Well the owner is on vacation until next week. The guy never calls you when your car is ready-he is honest but expects you to keep calling him. I dropped it off and called him a couple of times and he was always busy..
I may go pick up the car this weekend and then discuss it with him when he gets back. If he wants to fight me about it, he can take me to the magistrate. I signed no repair order and gave no verbal authorization.

Look between the lines of this like I am. Maybe I'm going blindCrazy You were prepared to pay to have it checked out - let's say that would be $50 ?? More? You would have junked it right away if it needed another $150! What on earth did you think might have cost much less than that and you were still bailing out on this car soon? How much is the real bill anyway? Sounds like he trusted you by not making you sign over your first born over this.

C'mon - start the new year off right and behave like real people. All this over a couple hundred bucks and you have per chance a safe car now for a couple months? It's worth that isn't it?
