It's a manual transmission and i have a question regarding the gear oil. I have no idea when the last time it was changed, it's used and I got it from a dealership so there probally aren't any records of this. A friend told me that the metal in the fluild might actually be acting as good friction by now. And if I changed it it would shock the system and it would be hard to get the transmission in gear. I'm not sure if thats true or not. The truck seems to be operating fine currently, that was just something that was recommended in the manual at this mileage, but like I said I'm not sure of the history with regular maintenance. If its recommended ,do it... Its similar to a differential oil..and thats recommended at 100 k on some models.. I think it would be Ok to do...just use the proper recommended gear oil. Pieces of metal floating where there are bearings is not a good thing.
