Leaking Radiator Sign In

My radiator has developed a small pin hole leak in the inside (facing engine) upper part of the radiator. Sometimes it doesn't leak for days on end others it leaks a few times per trip. I pressure tested and it leaked right at the operating pressure (15psi) it would release pressure down to 13ish and stop leaking.

Has anybody had any luck as far as additives and if so which ones? It's an aluminum radiator so I figured the cost to get it repaired would be close to the cost of a new one.

Re: Leaking Radiator Sign In

What kind of car?

Certainly the best fix is to replace it with new. If an expensive one the fix could be effective also.

For sealers you do that AYOR of it not working, causing another problem, and it's really a coverup even when it works so you always have the problem lurking.

I have had good luck with a Mac's product called "Radiator Sealer and Block Repair" sold by NAPA which is not just sawdust and makes a tad of gel. If you try something like that I strongly suggest using about 1/4 of what's suggested on the container and if it doesn't work pretty well and fast bite the bullet and fix the problem.

Sealers can clog heater cores easily and if rad is partly restricted now just makes that worse,

Re: Leaking Radiator Sign In

It's a 94 Plymouth Acclaim 4cyl 2.5l I know that the sealers would be AYOR, i'm just trying to get this through summer and probally sell it in August. The cheapest i've found a new radiator for was around $87. I've been trying to find a used one from a salvage yard but it seems the only one in my area that actually sells parts wants $125 for a used one (Imagine that)
