Leak after belt change?

Hi,
I had the timing belt changed on my fiesta courier on Thursday and today I noticed there is a leak. It is not engine oil but it could be brake fluid as it is clean and clear and it is coming from the belt area. It seems too coincidental to be a new fault so before I go back to the garage on Monday can anyone shed any light on this? could anything have been disturbed whilst the belt was being changed? does changing the belt include anything specific that would cause the leak if not put back properly?

Hi . im thinking that your vehicle is probably leaking coolant or antifreeze ,coolant ,can be red, pink, green, yellow, blue or clear in color . quite often the water pump is driven by the timing belt, in these cases i always recommend replacing the water pump at the same time as the belt because the additional labor involved at that point is very minimal and the cost and assurance of a new pump installed is worth it . sometimes what happens is you have an old or original pump and belt and both are worn but not necessarily broken or leaking , so you just change the belt ,for maintenance or maybe it failed and you leave the pump cause there is no visable leaks or damage , the problem occurs when you install the new belt . the new belt installation requires a far greater tension(far greater than the old worn belt you just removed ), to be applied to all the gears pulleys and pumps . greater tension is required with new belts to allow for the break in period of the belt .(new belts at first will heat up , wear and stretch )this greater tension applied will expose any weakness or wear in other components , such as your water pump . this same principle applies to all belts including timing belts and accessory drive belts ..nuff said ...........good luck hope this helps .......Todd.......from the hammer...........

It's near impossible to say. Absolutely some could have been disturbed while working or an existing condition uncovered - can't say from here.
BE SURE FLUIDS ARE FULL. KNOW THAT IF IN FACT IT'S BRAKE FLUID YOU RISK LOSING BRAKES!! IF A STANDARD SHIFT IT MAY BE FLUID FOR AN HYDRAULIC CLUTCH - both usually use same DOT3 brake fluid. As a test - try a smear of it and see if it washes off with plain water - just in rinsing. If so it's likely a brake fluid or could be antifreeze product OR something used to clean up after the job - can't say as said but beware and if a chance it's a brake issue decide on whether to drive it at all,
