L shaped tube

L shaped tube Sign In

So on my my home from a long 12 hour day, my temp gauge goes red hot, I pull over imediettly, pop the hood, coolant everywhere. A smal little L shaped tube that runs from I belive the water pump into the engine block cracked and let loose all my water... from the looks of it it is also broke on both ends where it connects... Its only about a 4 inch long plastic L shaped tupe probly 1/2 inch width... problem is, like i said it looks to be broke inside both the ports it connects to.... Is this gonna be a pain in the but to replace? let me know please thank you

Its not too bad to replace, but the housing it goes into needs to be unbolted and moved back a little so you don't snap off the new one. They don't bend. You can find the replacement at any auto parts store for dirt cheap. A hooked pick and needlenose pliers can help extract the pieces. If they are stuck in hard you can soften them by heating the outside of the housing with a propane torch. Do be sure to use some emery cloth to clean all the corroded crap out of the inside of the tubes before you install the new one, and lube the o-rings and the inside of the tubes with a little grease or oil so you don't tear the o-rings. Your engine is pretty easy to work on and the car's design gives you plenty of space to reach everything. Very serviceable car and for this job you need nothing for specialty tools other than basic metric sockets and wrenches.

That assembly that you have to move back is actually the belt tensioner and coolant goes through it. There is another point where that housing inserts into the block with an O-ring. This is also a problem spot that may either leak or break off. You really should plan on removing the whole tensioner and replacing that O-ring also.

thanks for the advice, i found the part, i need cheap like you said, but how the heck to i get that housing to move back to put the tube it? do need to remove the alternator, im not see how this housing unbolts or moves at all... thank you

Three bolts through the housing. One is behind the pulley.
