Kia forte drivetrain rattle but where exactly? Sign In

Hello there, I got this noise and my dealer is only available a week from now so I'm just wondering if this is minor or not and if anyone could give me pointer for when I'll meet them. The car is still under the 5 years garantee.

I've troubleshoot the sound a lot in the last 3-4 days. You can hear it mostly when slowing down but today almost as much while accelerating.

The sound is a metallica tap/clunk that follow the speed of the car (see clip below). The repetition in the sound I'm pretty sure is slower than the wheels rotation but i'm not 100% on this. It is a lot more audible when going from about 30 miles and hour until to a full stop. You can only hear it with the window down

This is not related to the motor; on Park or Neutral if I rev up the engine, there is no sound reving up or down. Therefore I think it's in the drivetrain

Kia Forte 2014
EX 2.0L
Automatic
30 000 km

I managed to record the sound with my phone, arm out of the driver window while driving. Sorry , lot of wind but the best part to it hear it at 24 seconds

Thanks for the input

The video is all wind noise to me and a parked car sitting still of no help.

If are under a full warranty watch out for what you touch if anything as you may void your warranty. Sorry it's going to take so long for them to check it out. Again - warranty - it's not your job right now to diagnose it just note the problem and they take it from there. If something totally obvious decide to fix it.

Stinks but at some point if you don't have any clue on certain noises have someone hear it in person you may not safe to use the car at all - full range of possible causes can't know a thing from video or your description,

Thanks for reading me . I'm surprised you don't hear at 23 to 26 seconds as its a medium high pitched metallic tapping while I slow to a stop

Someone suggested me cv joints but it sounds to metallic to be that I think though its the same kind of cycling noise while in motion

I'm just anxious since I get my new apartment keys Friday and last thing I need is no car when I want tobstart moving boxes

This car is sitting still with a person at an open driver's door and wind noise excessive.

Here's what shows > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34J7dy5YFOY
I can't tell if engine is even running in that.
OK - I guess for you. Engine is running and you hear a noise - this case car wasn't moving so can't be a CV joint as it's not moving. If running still with A/C on you might get a noise from that heard with hood open identify the part making noise not a wheel, brake nothing else if it's parked.
If this is the wrong video find or take another. Noise that changes while driving would be something the moves up to some silly thing stuck in a tire?

Not enough to go on for much for you with this? If you trust driving it just have any real mechanic listen to it and just say what they think it is but if you touch it or another if not just some stick blown up from the road you are risking not fix under warranty - your call but this thread is dead with the info so far to me,

Your input is welcome. This is the right video , I uploaded it myself!

In this clip the more you can hear the sound is when I'm slowing down between about 30 miles an hour to stop ( less wind the slower I go)

I think my muffler have a small rattle when the car is on park and I'm standing next to it outside . Could be a loose piece in that section assembly or related to the heat shield perhaps

!!! ??? Hey - IDK what is wrong but whole video is one still shot just sound changes. A guy at left side of car standing in a parking lot vehicle's front tag # reads TT-378-20.

Why a still picture with sound I can't explain?

Noises - a 2014 anything with an engine: Clicking or however described isn't too new for exhaust heat shields to be loose or a spot weld gave out make an assortment of noise more load and engine speed dependent than just vehicle's speed.
It's a maybe - could be damaged and too close to something. Usually you can find those or exhaust problems looking at them or better if elusive to tap on exhaust parts carefully with a rubber hammer - engine off and a loose item should make a noise for you and quit if you press on pipes or a shield if those are the noise?

It's a still picture because it's an audio only file. That's just an random 'Fill in" picture.

Thanks Hammer! I though it was possibly just me. That doesn't help me target at noise already difficult to do unless in person which is what I have to suggest.
OP (original poster) there's isn't much a web site is going to do to target this issue. We try but noises are just difficult no matter what you do for video or sound doesn't come close to being there and witnessing it and doing some tests and looking around,
