Kia Optima will not engage in park all the way Sign In

I have a 2008 Kia Optima 2.4L 4 cylinder. This morning I drove it and when I stopped at my destination the car would not go into park all the way. It is in park but not all the way. I am not able to turn the key off from ACC and remove the key. Any thoughts on what could cause this

Appears you have a shifter or linkage problem keeping the shifter from going all the way into park. If the lever isn't fully in park, the park lock system will prevent you from removing the key from the ignition. Your going to have to inspect the shifter assembly and cables to see why the lever isn't fully engaging park.

Thank you for your input. Do you have an idea how much it would cost to have someone look at and fix that?

Kia also had a recall on the shift cable. Recall number SC 088. You might want to be sure that recall was performed.

You should check with the dealer first to be sure that recall isn't open still. If it was performed, you'll have to call around and get some prices for checking it out.
