Jeep Wagoneer Fuel System Sign In

My 1990 Jeep Wagoneer 4.0L cranks well when I start it but the car won't start. At first I believed the battery was too low so I charged it overnight; the next day the starter was fast but wasn't able to ignite. When I checked the fuel bleeder valve gas came out at first but only for a second. So should there be pressure in the fuel system when the key is in the on position?

The pump should run for 2 seconds when the key is first turned on and then run again when the computer sees a tach signal from cranking. Bad fuel pumps are very common

Thanks hammertime. I ended up pulling a few relay switches out and dusting them off and that did the trick, at least for the time being.. nice vett btw
