About two hours ago my 2001 Jeep Wrangler Slid into a pond ( Nothing dumb, dangerous, or stupid). It was completely submerged but we pulled it out in less than 10 min. I haven't tried to start it yet. I first want to know what I should do from here. Check all fluids and change if any water found. Jeep is fairly good at making gearcases that won't take in water but they have to be checked. Get plugs out of engine. If locked with water get it out of cylinders and get WD-40 in there as it will stop rust and actually help in getting water out. If engine oil reads too full drain that too and fill again new filter and all. With plugs out crank engine and any water should be purged out. Starter may have taken in water so turn the engine by hand if you have to. Don't allow it to rust inside and lock from that. This will cause a lot of work in just changing out the fluids that may have water in them. Keep that engine free until you feel it's time to start it. May need plugs wires, cap and things that would crack when suddenly chilled by water. Fuel system should be tight from water but check as much as you can about that. Air intake parts must also be clear of water. Spray as many electrical connections as you can find with WD-40 to minimize adverse reactions with being emersed in water. WD-40 stands for "Water Displacement" - 40th attempt of the company to develop it years ago. There may be others that do the same but that one will and known for it. Get any electric motors going and dry asap. If Jeep stayed upright it will be better off for it now. Heater and all things like that can hold water in duct work so check all these things out. Expect some surprise problems for quite a while even after you get it going. Any water found in engine oil will make it like a coffee frappe and keep changing it till clear. If this was quick and cleaner water that helps. If really muddy it's that much more problematic to clean it all up. This is a problem that would total most vehicles and Jeep stands a good chance of having less problems but they weren't made to be submarines. Brake parts will be affected. Calipers, wheel cylinders may have been warm and sucked in water and will fail from that. Master cylinder should have stayed water tight but removeing the cap may let some trapped water in so bleed it all out asap along with hydraulic clutch linkage if applicable. Again - what you do now and fast will minimize the problems. Carpet and uphostery may be cleanable and you may want to remove these things for a good dry out and spray Lysol everywhere to slow mold or if lucky stop it from being such a stench that replacing these items may be the only solution.
