Jeep Cherokee spitting tranny fluid

I have a 1974 Jeep Cherokee full time 4wd with a 401 engine and automatic tranny. 100,000+ miles.
After driving it, it spits tranny fluid out of the dipstick tube. Usually a fairly good amount.
I just bought it for $500, so I don't have any history on it. And I cant get a hold of the guy I bought it from. So I'm not sure how long it has had this problem. 
Any help and ideas would be great.

whats the dipstick level read? is it possible its over filled before you got it?

Also look for a vent that may be plugged up. It is usually located to the top of transmission.
Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds

I thought that. But it has happens everytime. I refill it to cold level on dipstick and it does it again. I guess maybe could be wrong dipstick (too short)? Haha, surely it wont be that cheap and easy. Not with my luck. But that would be AWESOME!!!

That could be a good possibility. It is pretty muddy under there. If it was to be a mechanical issue, what could be some causes?

Don't take it wrong but Jeep was an AMC for those years - nick named "All -Most -Complete" if you will.
Engines, trans and all kinds of compents were fit in from the "Big Three" and even International Harvester for engines and transmissions. It may have a Chystler trans and those were checked running in neutral to check level and you may not have the correct dipsitick and it may be way overfilled!
Most gearcases and auto transmissions have some sort of vent on top. Jeep would be highly likely to add a hose and run the outlet of vent up to a higher spot such that being submersed in water would be less likely to enter there sort of thing. Usually an overfilled auto trans will blow out extra fluid when warmed up to hot thru that vent but could choose the dipsick tube. Guess on that. Not sure how you could know for sure now whether you have the correct dipstick for that trans which might be anyone's originally or different again by now??
An old timer trans person + shop might be a great way to figure that out with the specific vehicle.
If you can identify the trans used in it you might have a chance at knowing how many quarts it takes with just dropping the pan and filter job. There's lot's more still in them (torque converter) then just drains right out to go easily by any total listed #of quarts - might say "pints" instead. Good luck with that one - I think it's too full as a guess right now,
