I have an early nineties model jeep cherokee, and the gas mileage sucks. From what I've been told, I should be getting at least 17mpg highway, but I'm getting nowhere near that. Does anyone know why my gas mileage sucks and how I can fix it. I don't believe I have a leak, or at least I have noticed one.

Is it running well now? If not tell us what it does. Basic things that help fuel econonomy are universal. A few things that can make a lot of difference are:
Tire pressure to max proper pressure for the vehicle, high quality air filter, get all the extra weight out of the vehicle that isn't really necessary. Driving habits play a huge role. Keep all maintenance up. They used to claim sythetic oil would help but have stopped boasting that. I believe it does help at least a couple %. Folks will argue that but the less hard the engine works the less fuel it uses and I absolutely notice an engine turns easier by hand with good synthetic oils,
