Sign In I have a 2008 Scion Xb 4 cylinder 2.4 liter. A few weeks ago my car cut off off goin down the road. The battery light came on then all of them the radio went out then everything came to a puttering halt. A friend jumped me off and it started right up. Went to auto zone the dude tested the battery and alternator but didn't test the alternator until he put a new battery in. Well it did fine until yesterday and the same thing happened. My friend said it sounds like my alternator but I wanted to see what the general census is. Sign In Put a volt meter on the battery terminals with the engine running. You should see somewhere between 13.5 to 14.5 volts if the alternator is charging the battery.
