94 Grand Am 3.1 I was told my car needs a manifold intake gasket. Car was leaking lots of coolant. If the engine was damaged would they already know that or will they not know until they start the work. The car has not overheated, although it got close. Just hoping that's all it's going to need. Thanks for your thoughts on this.

Unless the coolant got into the oil, there isn't much it can damage further in the engine. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

It's coolant in the oil and you just pull the dipstick and look at the condition of the oil. Oil and water mixed together make gray foam.

Well, I'm sure the garage has already checked that, so I guess I can relax a bit now. Thanks for your help!
