Installing a serpentine belt Sign In

1996 Cadillac Eldorado
Front wheel drive
Northstar Motor 4.6L

Is there a trick to installing a serpentine belt?
My manual said to start at the bottom and work your way up. I was doing ok until I got to going around the tensioner. Is there some trick? There isn't any room on that sideways motor. I have a 1/2 " breaker bar that I am using for the tensioner.
Thanks
Tony

Ok: That may be the routing if I found it right. You don't have to put the belt on the tensioner last. It may and many times is better to get it all in place except an easy one, then retract tensioner all the way and flip the belt on a more accessible item. Ya - it takes three hands and foot to hold it. I sometimes hold what is allready in place using bungee cord(s) as needed till the last flip over the last pulley. If that trick helps and you use the hood - prop the hood open or get a whack in the headPirate

Then when you let tensioner do its thing and let go make real sure the belt is exactly on each pulley the way it belongs beffore starting engine. Hope that helps,

T
