Have you started the engine, yet? If not, just drain the oil pan. If you have already started it, drain the oil and leave the drain plug out for a couple of hours, replace the filter. After you've run it long enough to reach temperature, you can do it again, and should be okay. You can also buy some engine flush, but I don't really like using that stuff.

Loren - Readers:

Changed subject line of first post and this as it's a good subject. (FIRST SUBJECT LINE WAS JUST "rudyblum") I don't know exactly what happened by putting what in what oil tank that is mentioned first ---- oil for engine??

I'd do as Loren said if this went into engine oil fill. If it's been run it would likely mix up with oil and stay mixed. If water is put in a true oil and nothing touched it should go to the bottom quite nicely but I'd still change out that oil completely again and watch after a warm up.

Note: Engine, transmissions, gearcases, power steering use OIL products (near always) and should float on water. BRAKE FLUID is NOT an oil and will mix with water if DOT 4 or lower! Uncertain at this writing for DOT 5 requirements but suspect water would not mix and go to lowest spots. Either way a complete flush out if brake fluid is involved it suggested at once!
