I bought a Chevy Cavalier about 4 or 5 months ago from an auto shop. The car seemed to be ok for the first couple months. Then when I was coming home one day my car starting over heating then the car turned off. I towed it to the same place I bought it and they charged me $300 to tell me that its going to cost $2,000 to repair my car because I have a blown engine. I thought this was absolutely ridiculous. Like I bought this car 4 months ago for $3,000 and now they want me to pay another $2,000 to have it repaired. I deeply feel that I am being ripped off/scammed. Do you guys have any advice/imformation on what I should do? Thanks in advance.

That's a tough call. A lot of things can go wrong in 4=5 months. What kind of maintenance have you done since you bought it? Oil changes? ect. Overheating; Thermostats can go bad, at any time, without any warning. Could be that simple. Water hoses can leak, water pumps, ect. I'm not trying to relieve the shop from any responsibility, but S..t can happen. As far as the $2000.00, what are they saying is wrong? What engine is in the Cav? Loren SW Washington

The shop is saying I need a brand new engine as mine is melted together. I didn't really perform any maintaince to the car as nothing really seemed to be wrong with it. As for the engine I have no clue what kind it is because I know nothing about cars. And there was water leaking from my car when it died out on me if thats any help...

Melted together? Hmmmm? Well, a water leak could cause overheating which could destroy an engine if it got hot enough. It sounds like a very misfortunate happenstance, but... The oil and filter should have been changed before now. Regular maintenance is vital for a vehicle's longevity. I'm sorry to say, but taking responsibility for one's inaction sucks. Just my opinion, though. Loren SW Washington

At the risk of "harshing your mellow" overheating your engine, especially one with aluminum heads or block can quickly become a disaster Ask the shop thats telling you that the motor is shot,to be a bit more specific. EXACTLY WHAT is toasted? that shouldnt be toasted, and why did it become toasted? If they cant answer this question or more importantly show you (visually)............ get another opinion
