It's different in each car but many you can get to where that cable was going from under the car, look up at the latch and see if you can get a real long screwdriver or something up there to get it to pop one more time till you can fix it for good. Sometimes you can get creative thru the grille, bend up coat hangers etc and get them. If it was sticky to start with when working it will be even harder now. They weren't made to be real easy on purpose.
