Hello. I have a 2002 BMW 316 compact. It has been off the road for ages so the battery was flat. I used jump leads to try and start it but this didnt start it but there was life as the lights came on and so did the radio. I have charged the battery for 24 hours and put it back in the car and there is no life there what so ever. Does this mean i need a new battery? Or can i top up the fluid? Im so not a car person!!!

More then likely. You can take your battery to most retail parts stores and they can test the battery for you free.

Not only will they check your battery but you can have them put on a quick charge, it usally takes about a half hour or so.

It has to be charged before it's tested anyway. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Why in the world would anyone let a 02 BMW sit for ages . Just get a new battery and you'll be fine.
