Hey everyone I am new to this site and I absolutely know nothing about cars, any help would be greatly appreciated and I thank you in advance. I have 2 problems and im not sure if they are related so I will post them both. About 2 weeks ago we were needing an inspection and my emissions was giving a misfire code so we tightened the spark plug and were pretty sure we fixed it so we disconnected the negative from the battery to reset the codes. When we took it for inspection we failed because are van would not show a check engine light when key was turned halfway, it worked before we disconnected the battery, after that it would not work. The guy at the inspection place said it was the light because the command for the check engine light was on, meaning it should be showing on. Now 2 weeks later we are driving down the street and we notice the rpm gauge isnt working....then we noticed the stereo wasnt working, as well as the AC, and the power windows. About 5 min after we noticed this the van jolted and we couldnt accelerate past like 10 - 20 mph. After a few min of driving like this the radio and AC kicked back on and we were able to accelerate again. Also over the past 2 months the battery light would flicker a little bit when we accelerated and got the rpm's high. There was a new alternator put in before we bought it and it did this in my other car as well after I had a new alternator put in and drove it for years like that, so I didnt think it was a big deal. Now I dont know if these probloms are related or not but the major problom I need fixed is the car not accelerating....It is a 98 Ford Windstar Van 3.0, Its a 6 cylender and has about 200,000 miles. We have a newborn baby and we dont have alot of money and we need our van. Any help is greatly appreciated and THANK YOU in advance for your responses!

Have you tried to move the shiftyer to see if it cures the problem? Ford has a problem with the Transmission Position sensor and it will affect the things you mentioned. If the engine computer does not know what gear the vehicle is in, it does really strange things. The check engine light may just be a blown fuse. Check them all witha test light to be sure the light glows on both sides of the fuse. Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds

intermittent changes in voltage are not good on the alternator sounds like the belt is tight at idle then slipping under load I'd look at the belt, pulleys, tensioners, extension harness if there is one or could be a loose battery connection
