Hi Could you explain your problem a little more for us... Its hard to troubleshoot a problem when your information isn't that clear.

Do you have three separate problems with the one oldsmobile? Also how did the ignition key get broken off, was the car stolen or did this just happen when you went to start the car one day....

Ign off should shut power off to broken turn signals - but you said that was broken too! It's kind of clear that you need to fix both and you may kill the battery even if good if you wait too long + the alternator doesn't like this situation either. For now - disconnect the battery at neg terminal and fix soon, Good luck, Tom

1982 Olds: There is a puller tool(s) actually to get the steering wheel off - probably rentable as I don't think you will want them for just once.

* a whole new ignition can be installed and you can then see just what's the story with the directional - might just be a screw loose or missing that you'll never find.

* Check at popular parts stores as some of this stuff is available aftermarket and works fine. They now have the aftermarket "cancel" clips and things that used to be impossible to find. Take out any broken parts - some will pick up with a magnet. If need be you may need a junkyard or dealer.

***** To remove steering wheel:
Take off trip - screw usually from behind - horn may honk but take note and remove that and the order of all of this.

Then you need to remove the center nut. Best to do this with wheel pointing strait ahead - it's indexed with a small mark in the shaft. If in doubt use some touch up paint so you put it back on in the centered position.

Then the tool the depresses the wheel locking thing. It has a dime size retainer clip that takes a couple screwdrivers and some bad words to remove. Try hard NOT to lose that thing - you need it. It's like a snap ring without any holes to help. Keep track of the parts and order. You will need the tool to put that clip back in later.

Then you need the steering wheel puller, and you then have access to all the parts in there. Wheel does NOT just come off with the nut removed but can go back on by just tightening the nut.

If this seems like too much - try a body shop as they deal with stolen cars and this stuff gets broken all the time. A junk yard can be your best friend with a 1982 car.

Some needed tools:

Small screwdrivers, needle nose pliers, magnets really help, and a stubby #2 phillips to remove trim and of course the puller tools. Duct tape applied to mouth could save a marriage/relationship as this is a frustrating job!!

I'm at this site about 4 times a day so hit back if you have more troubles. Good luck, Tom
