Out of nowhere, my brake pedal has gone almost all the way to the floor when I use the brakes. Normally the pedal would go down just a little before before I get plenty of brake-age. Now I have to push it down clear to the floor to get barely any brake-age.

Is this just age? Exactly WHAT do I need to get fixed and how much SHOULD it cost?

I do not want to get ripped off, I'm just a poor college student.Unsure

Sounds like a hydraulic failure ...possibly a line,wheel cylinder,master cylinder,caliper...etc
Does the red warning light come on?
Brake linings could be worn out as well.

I SUGGEST GETTING THIS CAR IN TO HAVE THE BRAKE SYSTEM CHECKED A.S.A.P.
DO NOT CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT IN THIS CONDITION.....

Definitely sounds unsafe to drive.....

Impossible to predict the cost until finding out exactly whats wrong...

I know your a poor college student..but we would like you to remain a LIVE poor college student..

Find out what wrong with it and post it...we can guide you to what sounds like a fair cost...

OK, went to Midas and they said the line is busted.

Since it won't let me post a picture in here or else I can't figure out how, I scanned the estimate and put it on a picture hosting site so here is a scan of the estimate:

Does this sound legit?

Yes...thats sounds like a Good "DEAL"

Anytime a line ruptures..it can get quite expensive and sometimes labor intensive...because lines do not come pre made..
They have to be bent/fabricated to the vehicle..and sometimes once you replace the line..when you go to bleed the air from the system, the added pressure can cause other lines to leak.
Another thing is the bleeders at each wheel can snap off causing additional expense..I assume they check ed that the bleeders opened first before giving you an estimate.

ChecK with them first on that so there is no surprise phone calls with additional expenses of calipers and / or wheel cylinders.

If thats the complete estimate...its sounds ok to me...
Hey thats was fast BTW..getting to Midas...
Let me know the outcome

Jim
