I've read online that some cars you're able to change the fuel pump without dropping tha gas tank. They say that sometimes under the rear seats or under the trunk rug there is an acess panel and you can change the fuel sender without dropping the gas tank, has anyone ever heard of this? I don't have the car yet but I have to change the fuel pump on a 2002 Pontiac Starfire. Wasn't sure if that model car has a acess panel or if I'm going to have to pull the gas tank off......

My labor guide is showing 1.8 hrs, which means you'll have to drop the tank. Just my opinion, but I would advise you use a GM or Bosch fuel pump. The generic ones you can get at the discount parts stores just don't last.
Also, replace the fuel filter at the same time. (most warranties require this, anyway, but a plugged filter will cause a pump to burn up, as well as low fuel levels). Good luck.

Yep, you gotta drop the tamk. Also ask about a new connector for the pump. GM had a TSB on certain models for the connector.
