Hard starting Sign In

1999
Chrysler
Town and Country
3.8 liter
225000

Hard starting for last couple days . I am pulling 14 volts across the battery while running, but when i crank the motor the engine seems to pause during crank and all lights in cabin go bad.
I am thinking the starter is about dead, but would like some feed back before i go drop 250 for a new one.

Why don't you have the battery tested first before jumping to starter conclusions?

Re: Hard starting Sign In

14v while running suggests all is well with charging system but says nothing about whether battery and connections both pos+ and neg- are good at both ends.

You could have both tested and clean connections at same time OR can get involved watching where power drops to inadequate with a decent DVOM.

Couple things: Connection appearance doesn't mean everything. If this is intermittent like you said if you test electrically while it IS NOT misbehaving it would test OK so gotta catch it in the act.

If this pause can reset things in interior (clock, radio etc) can go from there but might be corrosion of power more than just cables. Is this a mess near and or under battery AND is there a lot of electrical stuff on this? Not sure but heard some put some important stuff in a location subject to too much exposure and a trouble spot also,
