2006 Nissan Maxima - Engine size: 3.5 - 150,000 miles

Shortly after installing half shafts, I noticed a loud grinding noise (like metal on metal). Any suggestions?

Recheck the work. Did a splash shield get bent to touch a rotor or something?

I already checked that. It wasn't the problem. Any other ideas?

Again - Since this happened right after the work you gotta recheck the work. I doubt the new (remain) shafts are the noise at all yet,

Re: Half Shaft Replacement Sign In

Could it be lack of lubrication on the splines that go into the transmission?

No, they are lubricated internally

What about the spider joints, did you top off those with grease?

Spider joints?

What, are we making up parts now?

Re: Half Shaft Replacement Sign In

Doesn't a half-shaft have a U-joint at one end? does it have a 4-way piece with end caps inside the u-joint? if it does that little 4-way is called a spider joint. had to deal with one on my f-250 and my buddy's silverado

Re: Half Shaft Replacement Sign In

That would be no, no and no.

It's a C/V joint
