Hi All, Got a problem with my 1999 Chevy Silverado 4-wheel drive Pick-Up's anti lock brakes. This problem has been repaired under a recall issued around 2005. It seems the wheel sensor is subject to corrosion which causes a false reading at slow speeds say 5-10 MPH and the anti lock brakes activate so the vehicle won't stop correctly. I believe the truck had about 40,000 miles when I first noticed the problem. I got the repair done on my own in a private shop before the recall and took the truck to the dealer for them to look at it after the recall. Now at 85,000 miles on the truck I have the problem again. The dealer says they can't fix it twice under the recall and want to charge me $ 150.00 dollars to repair if that is the problem. GM says they may fix it under a Good Will Gesture situation if I can prove that is the problem by having it diagnosed at a Chevrolet authorized dealership, but won't pay for diagnosing it.
Now my question. Can this anti lock brake problem be caused by anything other then a rusty sensor? & Is it possible to disable the anti lock brakes all together? because I really don't need them. After all, if you don't know how to drive you shouldn't be on the road and anti lock brakes were made for people that don't know how to drive.....
