Fuel pump questions '94 Chev pickup Sign In

I have a '94 chevy pickup. Friday it was running rough, especially under a load. It was cruising ok on flat road but as soon as I hit any kind of incline I didn't have enough power. The next day the truck would not start. I'm thinking fuel pump. My question is could a relay fail like this, or do they go to heck all at once? Is there another relay on the truck that I could swap out just to test it?

OK, update. The relay clicks on when I turn on the ignition, the pump runs and turns off like it should, and I have good spark. I'm starting to think fuel filter, does this sound reasonable? Where is the filter, is it in the throttle body where the fuel line gos in?

The fuel filter is under the vehicle on the left side frame rail. It is a little ways in from the fuel tank. You should change the filter and make sure you have new 0-rings for the fuel lines. Then do a fuel pressure test. You can get a fuel pressure guage at AutoZone for about $25.

To add too what Steve has said; just because you can hear the pump running it doesn’t guarantee that it’s producing the proper amount of pressure.
A 94 V6 or small block back then were still likely TBI (throttle body injection) and the pressure should be in the range of 9-13 psi.
