First time posting so sorry if not in the right bit of the forum.

My car broke down last week. Was driving fine in the morning and then when went to come home from work it wouldn't start.

Took to garage who worked on it for a few days. They say that the wrong fuel has been put in. It's a diesel car and they say there's thick black petrol in it. I have the receipt for the last time I filled up, it was definitely diesel, and the car has driven 400+ miles on that fuel.

Is there anything that could have happened to the fuel while in the car to make it seem to a mechanic that it's petrol and also to make the car break down?

I have no known enemies.
Plus I assume the only way to get to the fuel tank is by unlocking the fuel cover? That hasn't been broken nor does it appear tampered with.

You didn't say what this was just a diesel that went 400 miles on last fuel now black or dark?

A lot of those fuel doors would open with a credit card it's usually just a button.

I believe you with fuel so costly world wide some folks would use cooking oils or mix in old engine oil some diesels worked on it!

You would know if someone would do that it's not a good idea sure was done following a truck or something smelling like French fries sometimes!

Hope it's an easy fix whatever caused that? IDK,
