Fuel Guage Not Reading Correctly Sign In

I have 2000 grand caravan. The fuel guage started reading 1/4 tank and would quit running. After I put gas in it it would start up and be fine. Now it will stop running just below 1/2 tank. I add gas and it will be fine. I realize it is running out of gas but the guage keeps showing different levels before it runs out. Could my float be sticking or is it something electrical. Thanks

Interesting? Are you getting the expected # of miles for the fuel you know you put in? Gauge could stick. Are you sure it's really empty? If so and you trust the vehile to fill it up I would with some solvent like Techron and hope for the thing to loosen up but count your miles from full so you don't get stuck again,

Re: Fuel Guage Not Reading Correctly Sign In

I am getting the actual miles compared to the gas I put in. The gas guage just doesnt move once it gets below 1/2 tank. I kept gas in the van for a month or so ot make sure the gas I was using was accurate, and it was. If it the gas guage, how do I fix it. Could it be the float. The gas guage registers when I put gas in it. Then it will go so far and run out between 1/4 and a 1/2 on guage. Thanks

Re: Fuel Guage Not Reading Correctly Sign In

I have found the actual floats stick before reading low or empty. It's part of the fuel pump in some and might be separate for this one. When removed I've felt them sticky and guess they would work again but never put those back in as it's a PITA to get back there if it still failed.

This may self correct but will make you watch the miles as I always do anyway. The very few that were actually sticky were vehicles that did have extended storage times and didn't need replacement of the gauge,
