Fuel Gauge issues

Ok so i have a 2 door, 6 cylinder 4.3L 2000 GMC Jimmy and my gas gauge will randomly move from full to empty and thats it. It never shows the actual amount in the tank its always either on full or empty. What could cause this?

They have a lot of problems with the senders in the fuel tank due to additives in the fuel.
