Fuel Filter Line 0-rings.. Sign In

1998 Ponitac Transport. Bought a new Fuel Filter. Tried installing it today, snapped it back in, was leaking, pulled line back off 3 different pieces fell out, 2 or 3 rubber O-rings came out, a nylon clear type of washer, and a black piece that goes in last, im assuming thats the order it goes in. But the O-rings both got cut and destroyed so i gotta get new ones. The O-rings go in first correct then the nylon washer and then the black piece, because this black piece was hard to get off of OLD filter i took off so It has to go on in new filter.. gas was pouring out pretty good because I tried it without that black piece and then with it,and a O-Ring missing. poured out both times. Just one O-ring could cause it to leak correct? Im just trying to find somewhere the order it all goes in the fuel line.. so it dont get screwed up. The line im having trouble with is the one coming from Gas Tank..its pressure fit on both sides. Thanks for any help.

You may need to replace the complete quick connector. Most part suppliers have some sort of system that will allow you to cut the old connector off and crimp a new one onto the nylon line. I have not seen the individual seals or spacers to repair the quick connectors.

ive tried both aftermarket, and OEM quick connect/nylon line repair kits and they never seem to seal correctly.

what i ended up foing was taking high pressure fuel hose made for fuel injection and substituting the hose for the nylon no leaks since and next time need to change the filter will be a hell of alot easier

Yeah should I just get some of that like rubber hose and a clamp that can tighten it down really tight. Because I'm sure I'm gonna have to order the retarted O-Ring set direct. No ones got anything like that. Save time, money, and more convenient for future replacement..?

Hey dmac. Please explain a little more on the fuel line replacement. How much did you replace? Did you take it to a metal line and did away with all the nylon/plastic fuel line? You have me just a little concerned here.

way2old,

on my truck where the fuel filter is (inside the frame rail on the drivers side) there is about 18" of nylon fuel line inbetween the hard steel line.

this is how i supplemented the high pressure hose.

i ran a roughly 6" length of hose from the hard steel line double clamped to the inlet of the filter double clamped again.

then on the outlet of the filter, i ran another 6" piece of hose to the hard steel line, again double clamped on each end.

OK. Makes more sense. I think the Pontiac is all nylon/plastic lines tho. Might not really be a good repair fot that vehicle.
