Front hub 95 Mitsu Galant Sign In

Hi, I'm replacing the front hub on a Mitsubishi 1995 Galant.
FWD 2.4 auto 70,000miles
I have the 4 hub bolts removed but it (the hub)doesn't want to seperate from the knuckle. Brakes are off and axle nut is removed, axle is loose and not seized to the hub. Only hammer I've got is a 20oz framing hammer and I've already mashed up the old hub pretty good and it's not budging. I sprayed penetrating lube all over the interface. Do I just need a bigger hammer? This pot licker is really on there. Help?

Well your smack dab in the middle of the rust belt, so more than likely that hub is very rusted and may have to be pressed off....

What you can try........... Is put 2 bolts back into the hub, start a few treads but leave as much out as possible, put a socket on the bolt and get a long extension for the socket. Now look for a solid spot on the frame/body that the end of the extension can hit but still has a pretty straight line to the bolt head. Get a helper to turn the car on and turn the wheel until the extension hits the spot you found (you will probaby have to hold the extension until it hits the spot so it doesn't fall out of place) and then keep turning the wheel using the p/s pump as a press and pop the hub out. you may have to turn the wheel the other way as well and "walk the hub out".

Use caution and common sense when trying this. Make sure its a spot that can handle pressure. Don't put yourself in a spot to be hurt if something pops loose and don't burn up your pump or blow a hose trying this. If it doesn't come out pretty quickly or at least move a little then you will probably have to R&R the hub assembly and have it pressed the correct way.....

Re: Front hub 95 Mitsu Galant Sign In

Thanks for the suggestion, before checking back in here I made a last ditch effort with my air chisel. Carefully hitting it right at the interface at opposing sides each time. It was very quick to show progress so I knew I was on to something good. With a little patience I got the hub off in about 5 minutes, just a little at a time making sure not to torque it sideways in the knuckle. New one went in without a hitch.
I'll keep this site in my bookmarks. Planning on some other front end work soon. Thanks
