I have a 1999 KIA sportage that I believe needs a new front wheel bearing. As it seems to have a lot of play in it. How hard is it to change and are their any tourqe specs I need to know? also does any one have a diagram of this so I have a reference to look at. Have a garage and lots of tools so all I need is advice. Thanks guys Huffy47

Here is a TSB on that.

SOURCE: Kia Technician Times
TITLE: Wheel Bearing Adjustment
APPLIES TO: Sportage
SERVICE TIP:
Whether a vehicle is driven on surface streets, highways, or off-road, front wheel bearing adjustment may loosen up over time, resulting in play which may eventually effect brake wear, 4WD hub engagement (if equipped), seal and bearing life, etc.
If you find excessive play, use the adjusting procedure below after making sure bearings and hub are serviceable. Replace defective parts and/or repack bearings as required.
Remove locking screws and plate (4WD) or straighten staked area on adjusting nut collar(2WD) as required. Using Kia SST K00B-5010-FHB, back off adjusting nut one full turn. "Seat" bearings by torquing adjusting nut to 12 lb-ft while turning the hub or wheel. Loosen the adjusting nut one full turn, then retighten "hand tight". Install lock plate and two attaching screws (4WD) or stake adjusting nut collar (2WD).
NOTE: If threaded holes do not line up with holes in lock plate, loosen adjusting nut just enough to make the holes line up.

If you go to alldatadiy you can purchase a subscription for you vehicle. I think a one year is $16.95 or you can get 3 years for $29.95. It blows the Haynes manual out of the water. Has great step by step instructions with pictures. With the alldata, and the mechanics on this site, I've yet to have to take my vehicle to a shop. Although, I give most of the credit to the guys here. They have been my lifeline on many projects and have saved my ass many times!
