I have a 2002 Ford Windstar that I believe needs a front wheel bearing. My question what is the best way to check and just how hard is it to install a new one? I have a good garage and a good collection of tools so I just need to no how hard it is and do I need to have any special tools. I have never done any work on front wheel drive vehicles other than brakes that's why I am a little lost. Any info will be appreciated thank you for your time Huffy47

Probable replacement is take caliper and bracket off. Perhaps 4 bolts behind. Powerful air tools help for axle nut with any cotter pin if used removed. If just sticky nut on purpose a new nut is suggested. Should pull off and you should feel the flaw in your hands vs a new one. most wheel bearings of the sort will get quieter or louder as you shift loads by steering while going along, T

I beleave the bearing is serviced as a hub assy on the windstar but i'm thinking you can't get to the 3 bolts holding it in unless you remove the drive axle which also requires you to remove the tie rod end as well as slitting the lower ball joint...good luck

Yes - hub assy with the studs. Looks like this............. Never say never but I've been able to remove the back bolts without any other antics but there's always some exception. I don't think you have to remove the drive axle, split ball joint, tie rod end - shaft is splined and shouldn't need come out - back bolt off it should just slide off. Likely to use thread locker so they won't just spin off on their own so easy, T
