In that pic the outside is shown. They are pressed into engine castings when manufactured for assorted reasons and are not a guarantee of protecting you against freezing as the nick name suggests. You'll have to just look for them, some out of direct sight. Is one or more leaking? Those plugs can rust thru and leak or if they did in fact pop from freezing there could be more to check out. Don't let it overheat at all if at all possible. You need to find out where loss of coolant is happening.
