Freeze plug

I have a 99 ford contour with a 2.0 dohc.Where is the freeze plug located at on it?

(They- not just ONE) look like that in assorted sizes. In that pic the outside is shown. They are pressed into engine castings when manufactured for assorted reasons and are not a guarantee of protecting you against freezing as the nick name suggests.

You'll have to just look for them, some out of direct sight. Is one or more leaking?

The car overheats but not all the time and it loses a little bit of antifreeze not alot.

Overheating can cause loss of coolant and loss of coolant can cause overheating. Those plugs can rust thru and leak or if they did in fact pop from freezing there could be more to check out. Don't let it overheat at all if at all possible.

You need to find out where loss of coolant is happening. The "freeze plugs" are not the most likely cause,
