Hello all, I have a 2002 ranger v6. transmission never had any issues. I parked last night, this am couldn't get out of "P". What could it be, it seems stucked, I know I have to step on the break, and I am...could it be some form of releese switch?? and oif so where is it located??

Can't say for all Frauds - ooops - I mean Fords, but the brake lights are the release trigger for the shift lock and if fuse is blown or switch is broken they don't shift out of park. Switch should be up under on brake pedal arm, pivot area,

I was just busting your chops. I'm a Lincoln freakazoid. This one for sale nearby and I better stop looking as I have 3 now! You will almost certainly find the switch or a wire pulled out of the plug on you Ranger. Fraud tried to save one inch of wire on some of those and they didn't like it there. Seriously if the wire pulled out see if they make the plug with wires to splice in or go used and take more wire. I keep a coffee can full of them from boneyards. If you need to drive to get one just jump the two wires which makes brake lights come on and shift it to N and don't start it while doing this and just leave it in N till fixed but you can't take key out. Don't let any wires short of course, T

Replace all related fuses and switches.Still no good. If I turn the key half way, will go in neutro and then turn the key, no issues! Found out by accident. What could it be?/ Ignition???
Still concern...help

Vehicles don't shift till you turn the key anyway - did you forget while trying to shift it without it running? The "run" position of the key will allow shifting - with brake on of course in these. If brake lights work forget that possiblility for now. This could be mechanically screwed up at the key cylinder. If just fiddling with the key after you are running does this that must be the problem and a bit strange to me??

It puzzels me too...I gess that's how it's going to be from now on...as long it doesn't lock on me I should be fine. Freeking Fords !!!

Spray some WD-40 where you can in and around the lock cylinder and hope it snaps out of that,
