Hello all, This is my first post so I do apologise in advance, but here it goes. My brother bought himself a little ford fiesta for his first car before he did his driving test back in April. Well it now august and he still hasn't passed yet so the car has been sat on the drive for several months only occasionally been started up and not actually been properly driven anywhere. I started it today and decided to turn it around on the drive. And let's just say I wouldn't dare take it on the road. The steering wheel was so stiff and at one point wouldn't even turn. It also make crunching noises as I attempted to turn it. Once I could get the steering wheel to turn the car itself barely turned, it felt as though the tires weren't responding to me turning the wheel. I'm thinking it's possibly the power steering. Any one got any ideas? Many thanks

I don't think they sell this car to the US (anymore - 1970s) would be different. WHAT MODEL YEAR IS IT? No matter at least do check that it has a power steering pump, is properly filled and that there is a belt at all turn the pulley to it. If either - that's the repair and find the leak if low. If belt is really loose that could also be it. Adjust or replace and find out why yet again. Other is if this thing sat and especially if damp - temperature extremes still even that long sometimes rack and pinions can stick hard or would be in serious need if joints prevent you from steering it at all are either factory greased and sealed or with fittings that haven't been touched long before it sat. Do some looking around with help if need be to identify what items are which, T

Are you sure the car is even equipped with power steering? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Tires REAL low on pressure? Hey - if no PS you need to be rolling a little if that's all it is. Almost everything has PS but for Euro and other may not? T
